分数コード（オン・コード、またはスラッシュ・コード）とは、「\text{C/E}」のように、和音のコードネーム（分子）とベースの音（分母）をスラッシュで区切って表記するコードだ。
このコードは、スラッシュの前の部分がギターやピアノが鳴らす和音そのものを示し、スラッシュの後の部分がベース・パートが弾く最も低い音を示す。和音の響き自体は変えずに、ベース音だけを動かすことで、楽曲に滑らかで叙情的な流れを生み出すのが主な役割だ。特に、ベースの音程が順次進行（半音または全音で一歩ずつ動く）するときに多用され、下降するベースライン（クリシェ）や、和音の転回形を表現するためにも使われる。これにより、コードの機能はそのままに、単調になりがちなコード進行に洗練された奥行きと動きを与えることができるのだ。
A slash chord (or ‘on-chord’) is a chord notated with the chord name (numerator) and the bass note (denominator) separated by a slash, such as “\text{C/E}”.
The part before the slash indicates the chord itself played by the guitar or piano, while the part after the slash specifies the lowest note played by the bass line. Its main role is to create a smooth, lyrical flow in the music by moving only the bass note without changing the fundamental sound of the chord. They are frequently used when the bass moves in a stepwise fashion (by a whole or half step), often to represent a descending bass line (cliché) or a chord inversion.
