増三和音（オーギュメント・トライアド）とは、ルート（根音）、長3度、増5度という三つの音で構成される和音だ。
これは、通常の長三和音の完全5度を半音上げた（増5度）構造をしており、\text{C}$の増三和音は$\text{C-E-G}\sharpとなる。この増5度という不安定な音程のため、増三和音は浮遊感や曖昧さを伴う、独特な緊張感のある響きを持つ。和音全体が均等な音程（長3度＝4半音）で積み重なっているため、特定の解決先への強い指向性を持たず、調性を一時的に曖昧にする効果がある。主に、ドミナント・コードの変種として使われたり、次の和音へ向かうクロマチックな（半音階的な）動きを滑らかにするパッシング・コードとして利用されたりする。楽曲に幻想的、あるいは不穏な雰囲気をもたらしたいときに有効なコードである。

Due to the unstable interval of the augmented fifth, this chord has a unique, tense sound often associated with a sense of floating or ambiguity. Because the notes are stacked in equal intervals (major third = 4 semitones), it lacks a strong directional pull toward a specific resolution, temporarily blurring the sense of tonality.
